PROSE ANALYSIS
In 40 minutes you will read, annotate, and analyze a passage from a novel. Pay particular attention to the end of the passage. Why would it end here? Oftentimes, the focus of the essay is a character analysis. Look for complexity.
OPEN CHOICE ANALYSIS
In an essay you will answer a question using a novel of your choosing. We read novels and practice analysis skills; you will use one of the novels we read to write essay 3. Make sure you answer the prompt.

We will spend our class time practicing analysis. We look closely at the choices authors make. Discussion is a large component of our class. We will discuss complex ideas and try to better understand the human condition. Though this is not an easy task, it is meaningful and important. Through the study of literature, we become better able to understand other and to understand ourselves.
