
What do those marks mean?

Common Editing Marks:

TS = you are missing a topic sentence (your sentence should have a point of analysis and does not)

c/s = a comma splice

w/c = inappropriate word choice

sp = spelling

> = insert a missing word

pv = passive voice
-
_ = you should or should not have capitalized a letter (2 lines = you should)

awk = awkward wording or phrasing

naked = remember that "This" can not stand alone as your subject

It = remember that "It" can not be your subject (vague)

tense = remember to write in the present tense when writing about literature

buns = you need to analyze your quotes more

integration = you have a floating quote that is not connected to your words

wk. int. = unsophisticated integration of a quote

so what = you are missing your explanation of why this detail from the novel/short story/poem/play/myth is important to your point

plot = you are not analyzing the details; you are merely writing a plot summary

mla = incorrect documentation
